An Eye for an Eye

- How can Christ's statement, "Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill," be reconciled with His preaching of love instead of revenge as it refers to this Old Testament Law "eye for an eye?"

- What is "eye for an eye," "tooth for a tooth," "hand for hand," "foot for foot," "wound for wound," and "life for life?"

Subject: Which church is better
I have often thought about the difference between the early church and how the church of today would compare. Let’s put aside, if you will, the fact that there are Catholics and Protestants; with a host of other folks who’s particular doctrine might not match our own. Let us remember that the ‘church’ is the body of Christ, and the body of Christ is made up people who believe that Christ was born, lived and died, and then arose from the grave. In simpler terms the church is people who believe in the divinity of Christ. There is a lot of speculation about the early church: how the early church was not as mature, nor as organized or even as powerful; that some how the early church was not as good as the church today. I can see in my minds eye all the folks who choose to follow Christ while He was here during His ministry. It seems to me that it couldn’t get any more perfect or mature then to be apart of the ministry of the One who authored it. Surely the act of physically being there to follow the author of our faith is more perfect than following some one else’s interpretation. Considering that God is not the author of chaos, it would be safe to say that when walking with Christ during his ministry here on earth things went fairly smooth. I believe that it is a safe assumption that Christ knew how to run his business. Not saying there aren’t miracles today, but when was the last time you heard of some one being raised from the dead. If signs follow them that believe then I have to ask, are we really following Christ like those of the early church. Christ hasn’t changed. The church has changed, and I think for the worse. The Gospel is no longer a love story to be cherished. It has become a product, some thing to be bought and sold. Have we become conceited, and fallen in love with our own version of truth. We package it up and sell it to make a profit. There is a hurt and dieing world out there. I don’t believe they need my version of salvation. They don’t need to send me money for a prayer clothe, or buy a book from me that will tell them step by step how to make money using Biblical principals. What they need is the Gospel. We need to keep the first thing first. That thing is Jesus Christ. It would do us well to remember that the early church lacked most of what we enjoy. Most of what they had was faith in Christ. They really didn’t need much else. We are all members of the body of Christ. The first ingredient of any doctrine is a belief in Christ. It does no good to follow any Christian doctrine if you don’t believe in Christ. Think how strong the church could be if we all put aside our petty differences and went back to the source. Jesus is the author and finisher of our faith. We should all let go of everything that prevents us from holding on to Christ with one hand and our brother with the other. To create a chain of people for Christ's love to flow through. Imagine if you will, millions of divided Christians coming together and saying we all love Christ and we all love each other.

for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God

Hammerhead 1791, Which church is better? Please allow me to comment with CAPITAL LETTERS ON SOME POINTS RAISED. But first let us ask ourselves whether we are spiritual BABES (LUK 10:21) and ready to be taught by God. THEN LET US HEED/FOLLOW GOD’S ADVICE ON SPIRITUAL MATTERS IN THE FOLLOWING: Jer 17:5 Thus saith the LORD; CURSED BE THE MAN THAT TRUSTETH IN MAN, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD. Jer 17:9 THE HEART IS DECEITFUL ABOVE ALL THINGS, AND DESPERATELY WICKED: who can know it? Pro 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and LEAN NOT UNTO THINE OWN UNDERSTANDING. "Not saying there aren’t miracles today, but when was the last time you heard of some one being raised from the dead. " ACTS 23:8 " For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection..." There is no new thing under the sun! That which is said is that which shall be said.

JOHN 1:1 “ In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” All that is written in the Bible including the program of salvation is already there with God long before the foundation of the world. Now, since the Word and God are one and the same, for God regarding His words, it is a matter of, “Take it or leave it!” Period. To those who will take it (spiritually), they will have the chance to be with God in paradise provided they have passed through the narrow gate. MARK 12:29 “…The first of all the commandment is, HEAR, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord;” As the Book says “Hear, O Israel” and “Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God,” obeying the first commandment requires “hearing” and it is necessary. Now, remembering that the “Tree of Life” is guarded, and the likes of Adam and Eve who sinned against God disobeying Him have no access to the “Tree,” it is evident therefore; that the many false prophets and the “many” that were deceived by them, have no access to the Tree of Life or to Jesus Christ being the Life ( John 14:6). To whom shall they “hear and hear” to have “faith”? To those that have the gift of “faith:” HEBREWS 11:6 “ But without faith it is impossible to please him; for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” The summarize the message in the line “he that cometh to God must believe that he is,” it is like this: One who is “chosen” must believe that Jesus Christ is the True God” + He is the rewarder of gifts - the fruit/fruits of the Spirit - thus appointing, and annointing the apostle, prophets evangelists, pastors and teachers commanding them to preach the gospel.Who knows about this but those that were shared the truth and afterwards “diligently seek Him” and eventually become the wives of God. In their union, God plants his seed (the words of God) of which the children are the gifts - including “faith.” By this program and by “childbearing,” one is saved…. IF…. they (the chosen) continue in faith (in Jesus Christ) and charity (feeding the hungry/meek “lost sheeps” like them before) and holiness (eating and feeding the truth) with sobriety (1 Tim.2:15): 1 CHRONICLES 16:13 “ O ye seed of Israel his servant, ye children of Jacob, his chosen ones.” From the very beginning, God knew it that many false prophets shall arise and shall deceive many. To protect His Name and His kingdom , He used “Hear, O ISRAEL” meaning; His words are open for “Israel’s” that will accept Him as their God, and the truth to His words, ONLY. They are the “chosen few” who, according to His foreknowledge, will eventually bow their knee to the Word and their tongue shall swear the truth to His words. The “called ones” have no access to communicate to the the Holy Spirit. But since amongst them are the “lost sheeps,” the “chosen” is OBLIGED to always be ready “to teach” somebody found and given to them by the Father in, and out of the Household of God (not necessarily a place but wherever the Truth is there). OUT, because the sheeps are scattered into different sects, and IN; to make him grow in the knowledge of Jesus Christ. MARK 12:29 “…The first of all the commandment is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord; 30 And thou shalt love the Lord (Jesus Christ) thy (TRUE) God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength..” To the Israel’s are given this commandment. They love God with all their HEART (not looking back but going straight ahead walking the straight way going to the Father ), and with all their SOUL (fully dependent on the Father in spiritual matters), and with all their MIND ( by understanding and having the mind of Christ follow God and obey His Commandments with fear ) and with all their STRENGTH ( obeying “love thy neighbor as thyself” preaching the gospel to the lost sheeps). Narrow is the gate because one must obey the greatest commandments enduring all the sufferings at stake… till the end…to obtain salvation. JAMES 2:14 “ …though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? Can faith save him?....22…by works was faith made perfect? 24 …by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.” One to say that he has faith in Jesus Christ and is following the first comamandment yet he is not following the second commandment… and have not works?..... 1 JOHN 2:4 “ He that sayeth, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments , is a liar, and the truth is not in him.” God said, “If ye love me, keep my commandments (John 14:15) and whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point is guilty of all (James 2:10). JEREMIAH 3:15 “ And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding” To all the sinners who are coming back to God, the “Tree of Life” is not, all at once, available to them. They have to first pass to the annointed ones who are guarding and not allowing the insincere ones to have access to the “Tree.” Wasn’t it that they are commanded not to give their pearls (their wisdom) to the pigs? Having the mind of Christ, they only give their pearl to the sincere ones. Salvation is Word + Holy Spirit. All that they can give is the “word” introducing the truth as in planting a mustard and watering it, but the Holy Spirit gave the increase. And what is this increase? History repeats itself: he shall be another Paul and Apollo in the making !.....by the power of the Holy Spirit ! 1 CORINTHIANS 3:6 “ I have planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase.”
