Sometimes I am thinking why our Lord asked Peter these questions and not to other Apostles. Could it be that Simon Peter denied Him three times?

I feel that our Lord is not only asking this to Simon Peter, but to all of His chosen, including us. What do you think?

I hope this is God’s revelation on the question of our Lord’s “lovest thou me (3x)?” to Simon Peter. Joh 21:15 So when THEY HAD DINED, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs. To the Natural Man (1 Cor. 2:14), Simon Peter’s realizing his many blunders (sins against our Lord) must be our Lord’s “Lovest thou me more than these?” However, this query of our Lord APPLIES TO ALL chosen of God. Who can claim among them not having stumbled as Simon Peter did? One thing to note also is, “when they had dined.” We all know that this refers to spiritual feeding of the TRUTH that nourishes all the chosen, not only in the New but also in the Old Testament, as Jeremiah was in Jer. 15:16, plus many verses in the book of Psalms, etc. The first question therefore must be felt by all of us. We also say, “Yea, Lord; thou knowest that we love thee,” when we first humbled ourselves satisfying Matt. 18:3, and then given the benefit of: Mat 11:25 At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and HAST REVEALED THEM UNTO BABES. In the beginning, the first thing revealed to us is the true identity of JESUS CHRIST (Matt. 16:16-17) leading to the clear identification of God, thus exempting us from the rebuke in John 8:54-55, and 8:19. This was followed by the clear understanding of His words, not just the “letter” but the message behind it as testified by the Holy Ghost (1 Cor. 2:13). This is expressed by our Lord in: Mar 12:29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord. With our enthusiasm for these great blessings of God, which is not given to many, we BEGIN to SHARE THIS to people, although how little we have yet to learn the deeper secrets of truth. Many reject and only few believe, but this to our Lord are lambs that He told Peter to feed. Therefore the first sign of “love for God” is Simon Peter’s (and our) initial humility acceptable to God, endowing him (and us) with the basic truth (first step) about salvation. The second sign of “love for God” which applies to every chosen is the sustained humility as our Lord Jesus showed as model: Luk 2:52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man. This is the effect of continuous feeding from the word of truth through the means provided by God, like mutual sharing of God’s blessings of knowledge and strength (from weakness and stumbling): Rom 1:11 For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end ye may be established; 12 That is, that I may be comforted together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me. Spiritual (not religious) fellowshipping: Heb 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. In Spiritual Fellowship, the humility of the chosen is tested and every tint of pride is exposed, either to the brethren, or the chosen he/she keeps to himself/herself. In the meantime, persecution, trials, and chastening is up shaping the life of the chosen, as the Potter forms the clay (Jer. 18:2-4, Heb. 12:5-7). We find this in the life of our Lord, as model, as He continued sharing the word to the multitudes. However, many left Him when they could not understand what He was saying. This is the second time that our Lord asked Simon Peter, “lovest thou me?” Our Lord expressed to a humble Scribe in: Mar 12:30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. 31 And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these. Finally: “Joh 21:17 He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.” Peter was not grieved (irritated) as the Natural Man (1 Cor. 2:14) understands. Rather, he felt distressed when he realized the “impossibility of truly loving God” on “being baptized with FIRE” (Zech 13:9).This is the “great tribulation” in the life of the chosen -- the final test of humility. Our Lord as model showed the great hurdle of this test: Mat 26:39 And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: NEVERTHELESS NOT AS I WILL, BUT AS THOU WILT. Joh:21:15: So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these?  He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs ================================================ Yes, Sis. Sandie this is not addressed to Peter only but to chosen people of God. This is only a supplement to Brethren's posting.   One may ask, to feed with what the lambs? Let our Lord Jesus speak;   John 6:53 "Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you."   John 6:54 "Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day."   John 6:66 "He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him."   Joh 6:51  I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world." But how can one eat His flesh and blood to have an eternal life? This what the Lord Jesus said:   Jonh 6:63 "It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. "   Flesh and Blood and word what is the connection?   As it is written;   John 1:1 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."   John 1:14 "And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.   Revelation 19:13 "And he(Jesus) was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.     What about Love? This was revealed in our previous discussions and as it written in   John 14:23 "Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him."   1 John 2:5 "But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him." John 15:10 "If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love."   Romans 13:10 "Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: "therefore love is the fulfilling of the law".   One ought to keep the words of God if he/she really loves Him and the very first one to be kept and to be followed are these;   Matthew 18:3 "And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.   Mark 12: 29 "And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:" Once these fulfilled that is the only time you can feed the lamb within you because this is where understanding and knowledge begins thus the lamb within you who is the spirit of God will start nourishing from the spritual words of God.This is the significant of the first asking of Lord Jesus to Peter if he loves Him and feed His lambs.   Who is the Lamb?Is not Lord Jesus as written:   John 1:29" The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith,Behold  the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world." John 1:36"And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!   The second asking signifies that Peter (chosen people) should keep/follow this commandment   Mark 12: 30 "And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.   Before anyone could love God  there must be a need for him/her to recognize the one true God. By recognizing the one true God and loving Him (following His laws/commandments), you will see clearly the word and can discern the spiritual meaning of it before you can feed His sheep as it is written:   2 Timothy 2:13 "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." Cast out your doubts, ask and trust in the Lord for it is also written:   1 Corinthians 2:15 "For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ."   1 Corinthians 2:12 "Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God."   1 Corinthians 2:13 "Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual."   Though reprobates still you are, just listen to the spirit within you and convey honestly what it says being a speaker system:    2 Corinthians 13:7"Now I pray to God that ye do no evil; not that we should appear approved, but that ye should do that which is honest, though we be as reprobates.   Third asking signifies that children of God shall follow the next to the greatest commanmdent which is as it is written :      Mark 12:31 "..............Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these. "   Galatians 5:14 "For  all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as  thyself. "     And we have learned that our neighbor as it written     Luke 8:21 "And he answered and said unto them, My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it.   John 4:21 "And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God Love his brother also.   The neighbor is the household of God and these are the sheep which need to be feeded continously with the spiritual words of God to have a sustained eternal life that will lead to perfection.   Peter(chosen people) grieved because this a tall order to be carried and accomplished because this temple is still in the process of attaining perfection. It is only depending on the love of God for its sustainment in order to feed His sheep.          ----- Original Message ----- From: "kristel flores" <bibletalk@purechristianity.org (bibletalk@purechristianity.org)> To: <bibletalk@purechristianity.org (bibletalk@purechristianity.org)> Sent: Saturday, December 31, 2005 12:58 PM Subject: John 21:15-17 >
Joh:21:15: So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these?
